Failure / action / effectiveness chart – when to apply during claims management

The use of the above document is mentioned both in the VDA Field Failure Analysis manual and in the customer standards.

This is primarily about BMW and Daimler, who mention Failure action effectiveness chart as one of the tools used in the management of warranty returns.

Failure action effectivness chart – purpose of use

This document is a spreadsheet containing claims from the warranty field considered in a given production period. It contains a description of corrective actions (both interim ICA and permanent) taken for each type of problem (Failure mode).

Additionally, in the absence of such activities, the form can also include the date of the planned activities. As a result, both the organization supplying the parts and the customer will have information from when the problem can be expected to be eliminated. In case of ICA and PCA activities, the form allows for verification of their effectiveness, which can be monitored.

The list may contain the number of reports from the warranty field for a product or group of products, broken down by type or cause of the problem, and activities based on the production date.

Automotive customer requirements

The first document in which we find information on the use of the above list is the VDA FFA mentioned at the beginning of article. This is a document that is used for example by the VW group. Of course, we must remember that if a corporate form exists, its use can be discussed with the customer representative.

The second document is the GS 95004 standard used by the BMW group (Annex 3). A third customer is Daimler, which lists the Failure / action / effectivness chart in the MBN 10448 standard. This customer also uses the name Payner Chart for the document used to manage reports from the warranty field.

Practical “Failure action effectivness chart” form for download

Automotive warranty management is a very comprehensive activity. For this reason, based on many years of experience in the field of warranty returns management, I have developed a form that takes into account the assumptions of use by German customers.

In addition to the standard list with types of problems in monthly intervals, the document that you can download also includes a Pareto chart and an Occurrence chart. The Pareto chart prioritizes activities. Occurrence visualizes the data presented in the table.
